Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 76126
Multiple views of a document
Last modified: 2007-04-07 22:49:19 UTC
Hi I have a feature request for twin or multiple views of a currently opened document. In some text editors it is possible to have multiple views of the document you are working on. Likewise this would be a very helpful utility in Writer since it would provide the user with the ability to read something in one spot of the document and write to another spot at the same time. This feature has been seen used to split the view horizontally or vertically like: ---------- | Here I | | read at | | the | | moment | |----------| <-- possible to slide up/down | Here I | | currently| | write | <-- e.g. for print and web layout ---------- --------- | | | | | | | | | <-- possible to slide left/right | | | | | | | | | <-- great for web layout --------- --------- | | |---------| | | |---------| | | <-- several views of the same file | | --------- It would be great if this feature could be extended to allow different files to be opened in each view. - Anders Lind
I forgot to say that this will naturally save space on the screen since the menu bars of Writer as well as the rulers in the left side and at the top can be reused. The slider that splits the views (or panes) could be allowed to be only some pixels tall since the file name of the document is the same for the views. In case of multiple opened documents some identification would be needed to distinguish between them of course.
This is covered by issue 19291. I transfered some comments from here to there. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 19291 ***
