Created attachment 84236 [details] Location of the cursor for general overlap case Current Version of OpenOffice Writer: Apache Open Office 4.1.1 AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669 2014-08-13 09:06:54 (Mi, 13 Aug 2014) My current system hardware is as follows: Windows 7 Professional 64bit AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor (~3.5GHz) 8GB DDR3 1333 RAM AMD Radeon HD 7870 (approx. total memory 4GB) When inserting multiple pictures, OpenOffice overlaps the new image over the previous image. The cursor is placed right below the image in cases where the overlap occurs. If the cursor is two lines below the image then the image is inserted below the picture, however, at the end of the page the newly inserted image does not go onto a new page but instead overlaps the image above it.

The attachments show each attempt at showing the overlap for inserting images along with testing in Microsoft Office Word 2010. As you can see, In the first attachment the cursor is just under the picture, and when you insert another picture it places it right on top of the previous image as shown in the second attachment. In the case of MS Office, the image is placed right below the previous picture (refer to the last two attachments). The third attachment shows what happens at the end of a page and a picture is inserted.
Right click the image, chose item "Picture" and then tab "Type". Enable the option "Follow text flow". Please discuss in mailing list or forum the effects of combining the option "follow text flow", the wrap settings, and the anchor settings. Settings in OpenOffice are more eclectic than in MS Word, and the default settings might not fit to your needs.
Replicated reported issue on 4/20/2015 – Environment - Windows 8.1 - 64 Processor – AMD FX – 9590 - Eight core processor Geoforce GTX 970 w/ Driver and Dual Monitors Steps to repeat – 1- Opened writer 4.1.1 2- Inserted PNG at the top of page. 3- Stretched image to occupy the full screen. 4- Placed cursor immediately below the image. 5- Inserted second image - overlapped the first image. Other notes - - Used defaults to insert images. - Performed comparative test in word, behavior is different as per previous author's notes. - You can then drag the image to the desired alignment (work around). - Needs more testing to determine if this an issue or a simple difference.
Replicated reported issue on 9/21/2015 – Environment - Windows 10 - 64 Processor – Intel Core i5 4300U Steps observed – 1. Opened Writer 4.1.1 2. Inserted an image to top of page 3. Placed cursor directly below image inserted 4. Inserted another image. Observed result: Second image overlapped first image Notes: Tested the same steps with Word 2013, and the second image did not overlap the first, but instead got inserted directly underneath it. This appears to be a bug as the cursor should serve as an indicator as to where input should be positioned, consistent with its functionality throughout the program.
Replicated reported issue on 10/06/2015 – OpenOffice Writer: AOO411m6 (Build: 9775) - Rev. 1617669 2014-08-13 09:06:54 (Mi, 13 Aug 2014) System Hardware: Windows 10 Education 64-bit Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410 CPU @ 2.30GHz I am able to replicate the bug mentioned by the writer. The steps I performed to replicate this bug are as under: 1)Open the OpenOffice writer. 2)Insert an image from your computer in the starting line itself. 3)Now, click anywhere on the screen and you will see that the cursor will be on the new line. 4)Insert a new image in the same new line. 5)As a result, you will see that the new or the second image will get overlapped on the first image. Actual Result: The second image gets overlapped on the first inserted image. Expected Result: After inserting first image and moving cursor in new line, the second image should be inserted underneath the first one. =================================================== Follow-up Tests: After inserting the first image, if I hit “Enter” key a couple of times and try to insert the second image, it doesn’t gets overlapped. If you take pictures of different dimensions and formats then also the image gets overlapped. I tried this same test on MS Word, version defined as follows: Word 2013 (15.04753.1000) MSO (15.0.4753.1001) 64-bit Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013. When I tried to replicate this bug on MS Word, I failed miserably. When I tried to insert the second image underneath the first image, it didn’t overlapped and got inserted into correct place where the cursor was.

Tested on Windows 10 64-bit Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core 3.10 GHz 8 GB ram memory Graphic Card: Ati Radeon 7870 Monitor Samsung Curved 23 inch Max Resolution 1920x1080 OpenOffice Versions: 4.1.2 - Milestone AOO412m3 | Build ID 9782 | SVN r1709699 | Released 2015-10-28 4.1.1 - Milestone AOO411m6 | Build ID 9775 | SVN r1617669 | Released 2014-08-21 3.4.1 - No build information Image Formats JPG & PNG Severity: medium Priority: low I was able to replicate this issue on all three tested Open Office Versions. Tested image formats doesn't influence test outcome ( Open Office behave the same way ). Generally if you open writer and then paste an image and after that you click under pasted image and paste another one then your second image will overlap the first one. Steps to reproduce 1. Open OpenOffice Writer 2. Use any of the fallowing options to add image - copy and paste image; move image file to the open office window or use open office tab insert->picture->from file 3. click mouse under image, so | sign will be strictly under the image 4. Use any of the fallowing options to add second image - copy and paste image; move image file to the open office window or use open office tab insert->picture->from file 5. Second image overlaps first one If you press enter even once and then try to paste a second image then image will be pasted exactly when you wanted to be. Interesting fact is that if you press enter once or few, several times and then click mouse button to move cursor strictly under the first image then moving image file to the OpenOffice Writter window becomes more responsive. 1. If move image file exactly to that first row under the first image then the second image will overlap exactly like before 2. If you move image in a different row ( e.g. 3 or 4 under the first image ) then the image will appear exactly there where you left it. Issue can be quite annoying to some users. Inexperience text editor user may lose a lot of time repeating the process and not finding solution for it.
