Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 35088
Input Fields should not display a dialog but be directly editable
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When you open a document template with input fields it automatically opens a dialog to enter data, but if the fields labels have no meaning you are unable to tell which field you are altering. Because this document has come from a customer as a word template all the input fields are labelled text1.. With the document having many input fields it has forced me to install MsWord on the users PC. If the current field is highlighted then it would be beneficial!
reassigned to ES.
ES->BH: I strongly agree with this enhancement. 1) The pop-up window automatically starts up on load 2) hides the context of the field (the document) We should rework it for 3.0
Some alterations which i believe would be beneficial. 1.When the dialog box is displayed the relevant field should be highlighted. 2.An option in the users settings or the document should specify whether the fields are editable via a dialog box or directly. With a toolbar button to override.
This is a show-stopper for my users, who are used to using this feature extensively in making "fill-in-able" forms in MS Word. See my posting at http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=65757#65757 Though "inline" editing of these fields is highly deisrable, the appearance of the dialog is not so much the issue, I think, as the inability to use Enter to close the dialog, and to use Tab to skip to the next field. Could the developers consider having the enter and tab keypresses be intercepted in the dialog and caused to exhibit more traditional behavior instead, while we are still in v1.9.x?
I agree with you but don't think that some alterations of the input field will solve the main problems: How to protect the document to use it as a form? You can use sections of course, but there is always still one paragraph the user can type in. What about the export filter to ms-word? Often it is desirable to produce a form-textfield and not an input field, see (unanswered) http://sw.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=1098. A similar issue is issue 47799. @mtoal: ever tried CTRL-ENTER to close the dialog? Regards Peter
This is another duplicate of issue 33737 isn't it? Someone should collect and clean up all the dups of this issue. That would make it much easier for interested parties to monitor progress on this issue.
