Description mensler 2006-03-13 11:33:33 UTC
This issue exists since OOo 2.0.1:

- open a new Writer document
- draw something (e.g. a simple rectangle)
- click the drawing, press Ctrl, drag it and release the mouse button

The copy won't show up.

Maybe, if you group the first drawing with another one, the copy then will be
shown, but not always.

MRU->OD: not only copying of objects, even simple Drag&Drop does not work correctly.
When dropping a drawing object in a different place, it is initially not
visible. When entering text afterwards, it will be visible again.

FYI: Drag & Drop works perfectly for me...

Reproducible.

Copies only show up after one Object *out of the grouped object* is copied not
if the entire group is copied.

retarget to OOo 2.x, because deadline of OOo 2.0.3 missed.
Comment 8 michael.ruess 2006-08-16 16:34:03 UTC
When fixing/testing ,we should keep in mind that it is the same for move&copy
not only drag&copy.

I have some new observations.

1. the problem occurs when the object's anchor is "paragraph". It always works
properly when the anchor is "as character" style.

2. If the selected anchor is "paragraph", and if it is CTRL+dragged, Writer
should behave as follows:
(a) A dotted outline representing the object should freely move with the mouse.
(b) An anchor should also appear, and it should should seek the nearest
paragraph when the copy is dragged.
(c) When the mouse is released, the object should be placed at that precise spot.

But in practice, Writer behaves differently:
(a') A vertical line "|" appears where the copy will land if the mouse is
released. This line always appears at the end of the nearest paragraph, and does
NOT move freely with the mouse.

(b') The anchor does not appear at all.

(c') When the mouse is released, the object disappears next to the nearest
paragraph. And here comes the clincher: To make it re-appear, just click after
the nearest paragraph, and add any character (e.g. space). The object appears
immediately! There is no need to save the file to see it.

BTW the object appears sightly away from the exact spot where it was dropped. We
have to adjust it YET again, and also the anchor. This is very annoying.
