Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88966
changing measurement units does not reflect in rulers
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:25:53 UTC
under Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org-Writer/General i change measurement unit from inch to cm and it does not reflect in the rulers when i close the dialog. (in Impress it works fine) when i turn to Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org-Writer/View i get horizontal and vertical measurement units in which changing the units reflect on the rulers. i think it is a little bit confusing and maybe needs to be more clear in definition or similar UI for Impress and Writer ? what is the first one (in General) is used for ? is this a bug (or i just don't understand the UI)
You are right, that is not very intuitive. The settings in the "View" tab act independently from the setting in "General" tab once they have been changed. MRU->OS: I think introducing an additional option "Default" for the measurement units in the "View" tab for the rulers could make this somehow easier to understand and to handle. At the current state it canno be set depending on the settings in "General" once they have been changed.
i am such a joker (in a bad way ;-) . i read into the help some more and found out that the measurement units in the General tab are used for general calculation in input fields inside various dialogs across the OOo. while the View tab hold the values for the actual units that are displayed in the main UI rulers. so, maybe a more clear definition in the General tab can solve this issue ? like "measurement units for calculations" or "measurement units for input fields" ?
.
This bug can't be reproduced in OpenOffice 3.2.1 and should be closed.
